チリ作業員が映像で気丈な姿、新たな救助案で早期救出も

チリ北部コピアポの鉱山で起きた落盤事故で、同国の鉱業省は２９日、地下７００メートルに閉じ込められた作業員３３人の映像を公開した。事故発生から３週間以上経過する中、作業員らはカメラに向かって手を振るなど気丈な様子を見せた。

救出作業には３─４カ月かかる可能性が指摘されているが、救助チームは２８日、作業員らが生存しているトンネルにより近い別の救出穴を掘る検討していると発表。その場合、約６０日で地下に到達できるという。

現地では作業員が気晴らしをできるように、トランプや小型のビデオプロジェクター、ＭＰ３プレーヤーなどが地下に送られたという。

　　

編集後記

チリ鉱山の落盤事故は最近のニュースでよく報じられていますね。

作業員が現時点で全員、シェルターで生存しているのは喜ばしい限りですが、救出まで約4か月、仮に代替案がうまくいっても2か月はかかると聞いて愕然としました。

既に3週間も経過しているのに、今後さらにそんなに長期間、地下700メートルの狭い場所で持ちこたえられるものでしょうか。

既に気弱になっている作業員もいるらしく、本当に心配です。

経過が逐一わかる状況だけに、全員が早期救出されるようあらゆる手段を尽くしてほしいです。NASAの力も借りるそうですが、こんなときこそ先進技術が役立てばよいのですが。
